And what a welcome it was.
Thanksgiving long weekend at Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, proved a perfect venue to return to sharing wine, food, and comradeship during these uncertain times. While socializing before dinner has had to change we were all so happy to see each other again that everything else didn’t seem to matter.
We were welcomed to dinner this evening by Linda Robinson, who introduced us to the House of Jaboulay.
Antoine in 1834 started working the ground of the Rhone Valley, linking his family with the fertile nature of the region. His hard work and passion paid off for producing steel wines of excellent quality. In 2006 the company was acquired by old Champagne winemakers, Jaboulay Frey, and owners of Chateau La Lagune in Bordeaux. Presently Paul Jaboulay Ene owns hundreds of hectares of vineyards, some 45 years old, and some famous 80 year old vines.
Today the House of Jaboulay still practices manual harvesting methods, along with traditional vine care, using hand tools and only organic fertilizers. Linda also told us about their bio-dynamic farming methods, of spiders that go into the flowers at the end of each vine instead of a spray.
