The First Horizontal Wine Tasting of the Mondial
Petroleum Club
January 26, 2007
Juergen Bahr, Vice-Chargé de Presse
The L’Ordre Mondial hosted a most enjoyable evening at the Calgary Petroleum Club on Friday, January 26, 2007. A horizontal tasting is a wine tasting of a great wine of a certain vintage but from different vintners. During this evening we enjoyed 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape from 6 different vintners. The wines were introduced by Richard Harvey of MetroVino. Our hosts of the evening were Rod Thomas, Ted Clouthier and Chef Liana Robberecht of the Petroleum Club.
Richard Harvey, Manager, Metrovino gave a brilliant dissertation on the wines, their terroir and the producing vintners supported by beautiful slides of the region. Ted Clouthier, Assistant General Manager, Petroleum Club provided a superb selection of 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape’s and superb choices of dinner wines. And thank you Ted for the magnum draw. Liana Robberecht, Executive Chef, created again a imaginative and very tasty meal that matched the wines beautifully. Toni Marie Ion-Brown, Food Service Manager, choreographed the brilliant execution of the whole evening. Both the kitchen and service brigades performed to the standard that we have experienced many times in the past. Bravi!
Thank you to Ron Coggan for organizing the evening and Roger Baekeland for the colourful lyrics and able direction of the Mondial Chorus de Vins.
